Màiri Anna NicUalraig - Mary Ann Kennedy

Gàidheal Ghlaschu, thogadh Màiri Anna air a cuartachadh le ceòl, an deis meadhan coimhearsnachd na Gàidhealtachd sa bhaile mhòr. Ach, ann an da-rìreabh, bha dachannan eile ann cuideachd – an t-Eilean Sgiathanach, dachaigh a màthar, Ceana, agus a teaghlach-sa, Caimbeulaich a’ Ghnìoba, agus Eilean Thiriodh, far an do thogadh a h-athair, Alasdair MacUalraig. Tha i air a beatha a chur seachad ag obair le daoine - stiùireadh, piobrachadh, buachailleachd, oir is an deis mheadhan gnothaich as toilichte i. Ach tha i air ceum ùr a ghabhail a-nise, a' dèanamh air an ard-ùrlar gu h-aona-ghuthach, ged a tha fhathast a-measg nan cairdean ciùil as dluithe dhith, leithid Finlay Wells is Anna Massie air giotàr, Lorne MacDhùghaill air an fhìdeig agus Euan Burton air an dòrd.

Urban Gael living in the Scottish Highlands, Mary Ann's whole life has been music. Brought up in a tenement flat full of Gaelic song and classical music on the multi-cultural southside of Glasgow, she is now a musician, singer, broadcaster, conductor, composer and producer, working from Watercolour Music in Ardgour with her husband, producer and engineer Nick Turner. After more years of working with and encouraging others than she cares to mention, Mary Ann has stepped out solo - hard to believe that the album 'An Dàn' is her solo debut. "An absolute winner... An Dàn is a moving, beautiful work of art; I shall listen to Mary Ann's voice constantly and never, ever grow tired of it." (Mick Tems, Folk Wales Online - *****)
